Dopa

Aluminum, Stainless, Woofer, Screen, Acrylic
313*750*1825 (mm)

Dopa is an artificial creature, which consists of a monitor connected to an artificial skeleton and a woofer unit, but there is no camera to see the other person or a microphone that can listen. It is a one-way existence with only output without any input with a structure that can only be transmitted. In particular, instead of a general speaker, the woofer was used to maximize the smartphone notification sound and vibration. When you approach this sound, all that remains at the end is the emptiness. No matter how noisy it is, it contains the charm of the digital world that is hollow without substance. At this point, Dopa is not just an interesting being who follows us, but a friend who is hollow akin to/similar like social media.

Dopa visually reveals the “excess of stimulation” and the resulting addiction in modern society, making us look back on the problem of digital addictions. But, this friend who only talks about himself. Isn’t there at least one person around us who just keeps talking and doesn’t care about our reaction?!

Whether it’s a smartphone, Dopa, real friends, or ourselves, it makes us wonder if we should end up cutting off this recurring notification.
